Lancet Commission on Neurorehabilitation

Prof Rüdiger Seitz and Prof Hans-Ferdinand Angel have been appointed members of the Lancet Commission Neurorehabilitation. The appointment was made by the Chairman, Prof Mayowa Ojo Owolabi (Blossom Centre for NeuroRehabilitation, Ibadan/Nigeria). The Blossom Centre for NeuroRehabilitation is the first Centre for Neurorehabilitation in East, West and Central Africa. The appointment is a consequence of the 12th World Congress for NeuroRehabilitation, which took place in Vienna in December 2022. The organisers had set up a "Mental Representations" panel on the topic of credition.

Visit from Atlanta

Cooperation in the field of cognition research

Prof Neil van Leeuwen has been associated with the Credition Research Project for some time. He has visited Graz several times. The first time was following a Basic Research Conference in spring 2024, and he also spent a few days in Graz on the way to the Credition Research Project's joint appearance at the ICP Congress in Prague (July 2024) to intensify the scientific exchange.

Credition in focus

ORF visits the Credition Research Project

Even before the opening of the CreditionLab at the Medical University, the Credition Research Project was visited by a film crew from ORF (Austrian Broadcast and Television). The film was shot at the University of Graz and the Medical University of Graz. Hans-Ferdinand Angel and Nina Dalkner explained the significance of belief processes in religions and medicine: Creditions are the inner processes involved in the formation of belief in both religious and medical contexts. The programme was broadcast as part of the ORF programme Kreuz und Quer.

Credition as lecture material

At Graz University of Technology, Credition has recently become a topic in a lecture. The concept was developed by Dipl.-Ing. BSc Philipp Kranabitl. This enables prospective technicians to learn that belief processes also take place in the context of technology and industry. These can be obstructive factors in planning and strategy discussions. However, they can be trained to deal with them constructively. This facilitates goal-orientated work. Basic knowledge of Credition can be a strategically relevant factor in decision-making processes.

On the home straight

The Clinical Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapeutic Medicine and the Clinical Department of Medical Psychology, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy have been working together for some time within the framework of CREDITION RESEARCH to research thought and belief processes in mental illness. Preparations for the establishment of a CreditionLab at the Medical University of Graz are now almost complete. The opening will take place soon.

In preparation

Preparations to open a CreditionLab at the Medical University of Graz have been underway since autumn 2023. It is to be located at the University Clinic for Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy (Head: Prof Dr Eva Reininghaus).

This will create a second CreditionLab at the Graz headquarters. The first CreditionLab was opened at the University of Technology in 2018.

Salon Credition

Credition - Art - Cuisine

Publications on credition research are almost exclusively published in English-language journals and are therefore still little known in the German-speaking world. This is beginning to change.

From November 2023 to February 2024, at the initiative and invitation of Dr Hansjörg Kopera, several salon afternoons on the topic of credition took place in the city centre of Graz. The artistic ambience alone made them a special highlight. Following the lectures by Prof. Dr Hans-Ferdinand Angel, the selected group met for a lively exchange at the buffet, with which Dr Daisy Kopera surprised the participants with culinary delights.

TU Graz CreditionLab

Far-reaching impulses

During the basic research congress The Structure of Credition 2019, initial ideas for closer networking between credition research and medicine were presented at the CreditionLab at Graz University of Technology.

This was one of the impulses for the founding of the CreditionLab at the Medical University of Graz in 2024.
